Summertime is here, and those high temperatures can be overwhelming for preschoolers. If you and your preschooler are eager to spend time outdoors but don’t know how to combat the heat, we’ve got you covered. Here are four ways to stay cool and collected all summer long.
Beat the heat by dressing for success!
Thick, dark colored materials attract and absorb heat radiating from the sun, which isn’t ideal when temperatures are rising. Be sure to wear loose fitting clothing made of lightweight fabric to avoid overheating.
Use sunscreen!
Applying sunscreen is a no brainer when taking a trip to the beach or a dip in the pool, but did you know the sun’s UV rays can affect your child’s skin on any given day? Summertime is perfect for outdoor fun, but spending time in the sun without protection is dangerous. Use sunscreen, wear protective clothing, and even throw on a hat. You won’t regret it!
Teach your preschooler to drink water!
Spending the entire day under the sun can really take it out of you, and it’s imperative to rejuvenate and hydrate regularly. Water is extremely important during the summer season, and five glasses per day will keep your preschooler happy and healthy from June to August.
Have you used a misting fan?
One unique way to stay cool for the summer is a portable fan that also sprays water. And the best part? You can wear it right around your neck and keep it with you all day long! Misting fans are perfect for days spent hiking or camping and will definitely help you combat those high temperatures.
If you can’t take the heat, head indoors. There’s nothing wrong with a day spent inside baking cookies or having a movie marathon. Trust us—the summer heat will still be there tomorrow!
